Mamma Gina’s is our favorite. Great Italian food – wonderful bar – great wine – great early bird specials (you can see there is nothing I don’t like about this place.) Located 6.7 miles from PDRCC on El Paseo in Palm Desert (they have the burgandy awnings fronting the street) and valet parking (should you so choose – but there is plenty of street parking). Jammed during the season – make reservations for dinner. Off-season the bar is the place to be with a fantastic bar menu where they still bring you a bread basket. Jackalope Ranch (Kaiser Family) $$

Jackalope is a real favorite for people of all ages. Stunning architecture and gardens – the patio is a real treat! (I love to go there for lunch.) They rate themselves as Southwest BBQ and steaks. That may be true for dinner — but for lunch they have great sandwiches and specials. Really nice bar outside on the patio. Crowded during season – although because they are fairly large – we’ve gotten in here when others were turning people away.
